Take a break and go Camping in the Western Cape

We are coming up to a public holiday on the 21th of March – so why not take a day off and make it a long weekend? With our busy lives there is no time for quality family time anymore, so take this opportunity and make it a time to get together with your family and enjoy the long weekend to the fullest. Camping is a wonderful way to go on holiday and feel like you are having a vacation without breaking the bank. It also gets the kids away from the TV’s and computers and to spend some real quality family time together.

There are plenty of wonderful Western Cape camping sites where you can have a lot of family fun… like Kambati River Resort, where you can spend the days fishing for Carp, Bass, Eel, Springer and Barber.

Other great camping sites in the Western Cape include Seweweekspoort Accommodation, Assendelft Lodge and Bush Camp, Mertenhof Guest farm and many more.

Now wondering what to cook while camping is another story – so if you’ve braaied just about as much vleis (meat) as you can handle then this Beer Potbrood recipe should hit the spot.

Camping Recipe: Beer potbrood

• 500g self raising flour
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 20-30 ml sugar
• 1 egg
• 340 ml beer

Mix all the dry ingredients together, then add the egg and beer and mix thoroughly. Bake for one hour in a cast iron pan, packing warm coals around the pan and some onto the lid. Serve warm with a thick layer of butter and some biltong dust or homemade jam. Source of recipe
