Clanwilliam, Western Cape

Clanwilliam, Western Cape is not only one of the ten oldest towns in South Africa, but perhaps also one of the prettiest ones. With its collection of white Cape Dutch homesteads set against a background of orchards, vineyards and the breath-taking Sederberg Mountains, Clanwilliam is definitely a place to see for oneself. To get a taste of nature, one might visist the Clanwilliam Dam, one of the Western Cape’s most popular spots for watersports, or the nearby Ramskop Nature Reserve’s Wild Flower Garden. Alternatively, there is the town’s many historical buildings to take in.

Before enjoying a guided walk past these sights, tourists should, however, visit the local “veldskoen” (traditional leather shoes) factory where they might purchase a pair of comfortable “vellies” and delve into the town’s rich settler’s history appropriately attired.
