Bloemfontein, The Rose City

This capital city of the Free State province is situated roughly in the middle of the province as well as in South Africa.

Bloemfontein is widely known as “The City of Roses”.  This is because more than 4 000 rose trees have been planted in the rose garden at King’s Park.  The park was opened in 1925 by the Prince of Whales, Eduard VIII.  The city itself is lined with thousands of rose bushes, and many homes pride themselves on having colourful gardens.

When in Bloemfontein it gives the feeling and atmosphere of peace.  Residents of Bloemfontein have a strong belief in family values and quality of life.  It is a clean city, therefore tourists and residents can enjoy noticeably clean streets and pavements, free of litter.
