My Top 5 South African Beaches
Having travelled many weekends in search of waves or just a great spot to enjoy the company of friends, I have had the pleasure of visiting many beautiful beaches along our amazing coastline.
Here are my top 5 beaches.
1. Onrus Beach, Hermanus
My home away from home, and what I would call my local break. With great waves and adventures aplenty, this once little sleepy town offers a great array of activities for the whole family. For some Hermanus accommodation options for all budgets take a peek here.
2. Kogel Bay, Gordon’s Bay
This is a magnificent stretch of coastline with a panoramic view of the ocean and Table Mountain in the distance. This is truly a sight to behold and certainly not to be missed out on. For those of us who are fans of camping and getting away from the city for a weekend this is a little slice of heaven. One must note, baboons have been seen in the area and thus please make sure your campsite is clean before heading off.
3. Koel Baai, Western Cape
This is a favourite among bodyboarders and surfers alike, and rightly so. Waves, warm water, an incredible little waterfall and a beautiful cave that extends deep into the cliff, this tropical paradise is not to be skipped over on your trip up our majestic coastline.
4. Silwerstroom Beach, Western Cape
A beautiful, secluded stretch of beach with great waves. Ideal for those who want to get away from the busy city for a few hours without having to travel extensively.
5. Dolphin Beach, Jeffreys Bay
Rated as one of the top 10 surf spots in the world and home to the legendary surf spot Supertubes this is a surfer’s paradise. For the less experienced surfers there are a number of great spots that are slightly gentler in size and power as well as many other great activities.
