Kwazulu Natal, South Africa

Kwazulu Natal would be the province of choice for those who want a wide variety of coastal town choice, and inland attractions! With fantastic subtropical weather and two UNESCO world heritage sites, it’s easy to understand why this province has been praised for having natural tourist attraction talent! You see, Kwazulu Natal is all that and a bag of chips when compared to its climatic cousin Florida (USA). KZN also has a sub tropical climate like Florida, but instead of having alligators and swamps (unlivable), Natal boasts sharks and gorgeous (livable) Midlands!

KZN has definitely earned its provincial colors in “coastal town dotting”- its coast is literally dottily outlined by a number of fantastic towns such as Margate, Port Shepstone, Scottburgh, Port Edward,Ballito, Umhlanga and Salt Rock. The Eastern seaboard has a proud display of world class beaches, and in 2002 Marina Beach (adjoined to San Lameer Resort) was given the rare honor of being made a Blue Flag Beach! The warm Indian Ocean lends itself to promote delightful bio- diverse waters, with dolphins, sharks and game fish to provide entertainment for all your senses.

KZN has a breath- taking hilly interior that stretches from the Valley of a thousand hills to the Midlands. In the West is the ever- present and most impressive Drakensberg Mountains, with a number of activities in, on and around this protruding Basalt structure. At certain vantage points on this 3000 meter high mountain, you can even see Lesotho stretching out below you!

Vasco da Gama discovered this place on Christmas day in 1497 and named it Natal (Portuguese for Christmas). More important than the name he left behind, is his spirit of adventure! KZN is host to five very notable and esteemed sporting events: The Mr. Price pro international surfing contest, The Comrades Marathon, Midmar Mile, Durban July and the Dusi Canoe Marathon!

Kwazulu Natal has a lot of everything! From great beaches and coastal towns to majestic mountains and adventure packed sports!

If Americans boast about Florida, imagine how crazy they would have gone over KZN! Luckily for us KZN is proudly South African!
